Brian Crescenzo’s real nonfiction philosophical work — the argument about civilization at the pivot point, consciousness as causal, and the Nero Reinterpretation: Nero condemned by history for playing music while Rome burned, reread as someone engaging at the consciousness level during civilizational collapse. Not negligent — present in the way the crisis actually required.

Dual ontological status (load-bearing for AWG)
At Level 0, NTN is Brian’s real philosophical work — the nonfiction that carries the argument but cannot demonstrate it alone. This is why the novel exists. At Level 3, NTN is the fictional work being written by RAV Johnson inside Cosmo’s novel A World Game, inside the pp-awg alternate timeline. The recursion is the thesis: at every level, the philosopher tries nonfiction, finds it insufficient, writes a novel, reproduces the structure one level down. The non-resolution IS the answer.
The fictional NTN (RAV’s) is a gesture — a finger pointing at principles, not a reproduction. How much appears in pp-awg prose is an open authorial question. The real NTN is still finding its form — possibly hybrid prose/philosophical statement/narrative demonstration. Calling it “a nonfiction book” would be premature.
